The 3 Stooges… Really?

Okay, this may be old news, but I just read about it today, and it makes my skin crawl.  According to a link from my friend Justin, there is a 3 Stooges movie in the works.  Inevitable?  Sure.  But wait, there’s more.  The rumored cast is:

Jim Carrey as Curly

Sean Penn as Larry

Benicio del Toro as Moe

Now, I’m not a big Stooges fan, but I can appreciate their moment in history and what makes them who they are.  I guess you probably couldn’t get away with doing something like this without Jim Carrey.  We’re probably lucky it’s not Seth Rogan and Dane Cook or something.  But… WHAT?  Does Sean Penn even have a sense of humor?  I mean, we all loved Fast Times at Ridgemont High, sure.  But I’m pretty certain he’s made every effort over the last several years to be a dour tightass (talented actor, yes… but dour tightass nonetheless).  And Benicio del Toro?  Umm… I just don’t even know what to say.  He has black hair, so that makes him Moe?

I’m going to go ahead and hope this is all fake.  They’ll make the movie featuring the cast of Paul Blart Mall Cop, Knocked Up and Scary Movie 172 (and updated to make sure that the Stooges tell way more penis jokes).  Sean Penn will sue the world for defamation of character for insinuating that he has had or will ever have a sense of humor.  Benicio del Toro will shrug and move on, having had no idea why he was on that list in the first place.

We can only hope.

Who is Primary?

The good folks at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre may have found the connection between theatre and the Greenville “who needs to hear theatre when you can hear fireworks?” Drive:

Thanks to Bo for sending the clip!

Audition/Kickoff/Showcase Hootenanny

Okay… to all of you who were there… THANK YOU!  You know how great it was… because hey, you lived it.  To those of you who missed it… we’re so sad that you did… but there is so much more fun coming, you’ll be okay.  You’ll be okay.

Yup.  Last night was a smorgasbord  (or something like that) of homemade yummies from The Distracted Globe, delightfully delicious beer from Blue Ridge Brewing Company, extremely talented actors auditioning, old friends, new pals, a suggestions box, nifty magnets, extremely courageous and funny improv players… this was just one of those magical nights when the stars aligned and all the awesome in the universe concentrated itself on the Warehouse Theatre.

In coming days (that means - after I live through finals) I will be posting some photos and videos of the big event.  And in the coming weeks, we will be announcing our casts for our rockin’ Barefoot and Beyond summer.   So, since we know how much you want to be involved in making all this awesome happen, we wanted to give you a chance to be a part of the DG team.  Check out Team Distraction, and see how easy it is to make your mark on a DG show!

And hey… don’t forget to make it over to the Warehouse this weekend or next weekend to see Italian American Reconciliation.  Romantic comedy, crazy talented cast, beautiful set and lights, great direction… don’t miss it!  And if you come this weekend, don’t forget that we’ve got improv on Friday and Saturday after the show!

I can’t take all the fun.  I think I may have worn out the exclamation point button.

Be Alert

If I were really clever, I’d come up with some elaborate online April Fool’s Day prank to play on all of you intrepid Globesters.  In fact, I very nearly posted a season announcement for this summer that involved… well… let’s just say it was the byproduct of our last company meeting… it was awesome.  But alas, my energy is going to convincing my intro to theatre class that we’re going to be giving them a midterm today instead of Monday. <insert evil Moo-hoo-ha-ha laugh here>  So, I’ll just riff on the origins of April Fool’s Day - which seem pretty lame.  I mean, it’s all about the changes in the calendars and people who stuck with the old calendar as opposed to the new one.  Oooh.  Tricky.  There’s not even a Feast of Fools or anything… Nope… April Fool’s has pretty unimpressive roots.  But if you read the wikipedia article, there are some pretty impressive April Fool’s gags through the years.  Have you ever pulled (or been victim to) a particularly good April Fool’s prank?  Care to share?  That’s what comments are for!
