Director’s Corner 11

"Would a regular sports whistle do it if you were more flaccid with it?"

Wanna find out why Jayce was talking about flaccid sports whistles?  Come see Taming of the Shrew!  We open on Thursday!

Sneaky Stage Manager Comes Through

Okay, I wasn’t coherent enough to take pictures… but Jason was!

Stephanie Sexton as Curtis with Andy Croston as Grumio.  Didn’t I tell you it’s pretty?!?

Somewhere in the midst of one of the longest speeches in Shakespeare’s canon.  Ah yeah.

Hard Workin’ Weekend

Well, this weekend was tech weekend for Taming of the Shrew.  Painting, lifting, climbing, lighting, carrying, sounding, costuming, stopping, starting, labeling… it took a lot of work, but it is really starting to take on the shape of a show.  By now, we’ve got costumes (which also means we’ve got plenty of quick costume changes… with much frenzy and nakedness backstage at times), we’ve got lights - designed by the incomparable Ursula M. Finley (who is even amazing with a teeny baby strapped to her chest), we’ve got sound - with the kind of energy and fun that only comes from the mind of Traysie Amick.  We have painting - our stage is painted to look like the side of an old suitcase - complete with old travel stickers - and courtesy of the crazy talented Shannon Robert.

It’s always interesting to me - you spend so much time with the cast in rehearsal… and then, come tech weekend, this whole other set of people whisks in the door and they just blow your mind!  If I had been more coherent this weekend, I would have taken some photos of our nearing-completion set.  But I wasn’t coherent enough… what with the extreme exhaustion and everything.  So you’ll just have to wait!  Or maybe you can just come to the show and see all the eye candy for yourself (of course, when I say eye candy, I’m partly talking about the beautiful set and lights… and partly talking about the super hot cast.  I mean… look at us!  We’re gorgeous!)!
