Happy Chicken Dance Day!

That’s right.  It’s the day when we come together as a nation to celebrate the song that changed wedding receptions and Bar Mitzvahs forever!

Commence to Begin

Last night was the first table read of Taming of the Shrew.  It’s always so exciting to sit around with snacks and scripts and highlighters and books, starting from nothing, and knowing that in about a month, it’ll be something entirely different and unique and our own.  {sigh}

Wow… I’m getting awfully philosophical about this.  So… I’ll just go with that…

We came upon a piece in the play spoken as the prologue, that just does a wonderful job of summing up The Globe’s mission:

"Your honour’s players, hearing your amendment,
Are come to play a pleasant comedy;
For so your doctors hold it very meet,
Seeing too much sadness hath congeal’d your blood,
And melancholy is the nurse of frenzy.
Therefore they thought it good you hear a play
And frame your mind to mirth and merriment,
Which bars a thousand harms and lengthens life."

Cliff Notes to that?  Basically… we believe in comedy because this world is tough enough.  The sadness all around us is making us crazy.  So come see a play, enjoy yourself… laughter is the best medicine!  Obviously that’s simplifying things a bit, but we just love it!

So welcome to our Battle of the Sexes summer!  Thus it begins!!!
