I Loved This Weekend Because

Oh, there were so many reasons to love this weekend.  First of all, we opened the musical comedy I Love You Because… and it sold out!  Friday and Saturday we were full to the gills… even seating some people up on the balcony.  (Thanks to those brave souls for making it up the ladder!)  And, according to some woman on the radio whose show I will have to start listening to because she has such great taste:

ILYB “was absolutely darling!!! A sweet, funny, ironic look at romance in any era. You attracted some of the best singers, actors, musicians I have ever seen and heard. But, it is merely a reflection of the talent and artistic excellence coming out of the Warehouse Theatre every day!” Monnie Whitson of Magic FM.

All that to say… if you haven’t seen the show yet, you’re going to want to call ahead to reserve your tickets for Thursday and Friday.  Apparently it’s a hot ticket!

Also, The Globe took this Saturday to drive up to Flat Rock for the North Carolina Destination Imagination State Competition.   Back in my day, this was called Odyssey of the Mind.  OM still exists, but now there’s another similar program called Destination Imagination.  It’s a creativity competition where teams of kids solve different problems in a skit that they work on through the course of the year.  I did it for years as a kid, as did my brothers and my mom.  We all went to the world competition at some point during our time.  Frankly, I think I owe most of who I am to Odyssey of the Mind.  So when I walked in this weekend to see seven oddly dressed kids holding gigantic cardboard scenery, I got all tingly!  As they waited for their scores to be tallied, we got up and performed some improv for them.  We did a few on our own, and we did several where we brought those remarkable young people up on the stage with us.  Regardless of whether they were sitting on a pineapple, yelling at Jared about his shoes, emoting, or free-form posing, these kids were brave and funny and creative and I just couldn’t have been more thrilled to be there!  Thanks to Cynthia for helping to make that happen!  We’ll see you next year for sure!

So there ya go.  I’m being all touchy feely instead of sardonic and bizarre.  I apologize, and I’ll try to get back into form for the rest of the week.

  3. Totally wanted to come this weekend but didn’t make it due to some bad timing…perhaps I’ll have better luck this weekend.

I remember hearing about OM when I was in school, but they only let the gifted class go, and I was so obviously not gifted… :-p

  5. I loved this weekend, too! I am so thrilled to know someone with an amplified voice said nice things about us! Maybe I need to give that music i usually refer to as “sentimental tacky crap” another try.
