Happy Halloween

It’s really hear.  Last night I helped carve pumpkins over at Rick’s house (I’ll have to get a picture of his and post it up here… those architect/designer types are way too ambitious when it comes to manipulating squash.

And, I’ll get the full group picture up on the Brains on Fire blog later today, but I wanted to make sure to share my own costume… because I know how many of you lost sleep over what it could possibly be.

I’m Rat-tattooey.  Get it?

I wonder what Stephen Colbert will be for Halloween?  I think he should go as W.  And I don’t mean the president.  I mean the actual letter W.  It’s conceptual.  He could go as Papa Bear O’Reilly… but it’s a little redundant.

Anyway… tonight is the last night for The Warehouse Theatre’s haunted mansion, and the first night for Greenville Little Theatre’s Dracula… so get out there and get spooky-fied!

UPDATE: I’ve finally posted the Brains on Fire group pic

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow…

Well, here’s a predictable yet timely question:

What are you going to be for Halloween?

We dress up at my office… and it’s a creative agency, so we tend to set the bar pretty high.  (last year’s picture)  One year I was magnetic.  Yup.  Another year I came dressed in Christmas attire and decorated my desk with Christmas lights.  I was a major retailer.  I’m quite pleased with my costume this year.  I can’t divulge the details until tomorrow… but I will make sure to post a photo.  Because I know you’re all dying to know.

Anyway, make sure to leave a comment to give us ideas for our costumes next year!  I sure hope there are at least a few people out there who are going to be Stephen Colbert for Halloween!

P.S. Comments will not appear immediately.  They have to be approved first.

Being Smug

Well, it’s one of those things.  When I see an article like this opinion piece, I just have to post it.  Because I am a big grammar nerd, and it makes me feel better that there are more of me out there.  Heck, today I was reading the introduction to a collection of plays… I’m not even done with the first paragraph and I’ve already caught two typos.  It’s a difficult world to live in, but it gives an awful lot of fodder for improv rants.  So I forbear.

And speaking of improv rants, remember to mark your calendars for the upcoming Second Annual Politically Correct, Non-Denominational, Winter Holiday Extravaganza playing after Warehouse productions of Reckless December 7, 8, 14 & 15 @ 10:30pm.

And before that… make sure to check out DG associate artists Ryan and Bryan in Dracula at Greenville Little Theatre.  It opens on Halloween (with a costume contest to boot!) and plays through November 17th.  Apparently it’s all kinds of creepy, so make sure to check that out!

And, of course, if you happen to be a registered SC voter who still hasn’t signed a Stephen Colbert petition, make sure to get yours today… or just sign someone else’s!  He was even in Columbia over the weekend.  This guy’s serious!

The Big Easy

Well, gentle viewers, I am currently in New Orleans - just 3 blocks from the historic French Quarter.  Very exciting.  I walked down part of Bourbon Street last night.  What I saw so far is mostly populated by flourescent signs, souvenir shops and strip clubs, but apparently there’s great shopping farther down.  I mean… greater than the showgirl lingerie store with the busty mannequins.

But here’s the thing: I didn’t want my business trip to get in the way of The Distracted Globe’s love letter to Stephen Colbert.  So here’s the scoop.  Apparently Stephen has some trips planned to good ol’ SC very soon.  So, if you manage to find one, and attend it… give him a big hello from The Distracted Globe!

And remember to get your petition on his campaign website

Colbert Campaign Mascot

Okay… so it seems that Barack Obama has managed to secure the all-important Iowa butter cow vote.  Well done!  So my question is… what is the South Carolina equivalent that Stephen Colbert should seek out?  Any thoughts?  Leave ‘em in the comments!

The Man Behind the Candidate

A great piece in Vanity Fair… all about Mr. Colbert.  (You know… that rhymes!)

And He’s Manly

Today I was at work, as I assume many of us were.  In fact… I still am at work.  And instead of doing productive, billable work, I decided to surf the internet for pictures of Stephen Colbert.

And you know, it turns out that in addition to being truthy and always right… he’s way muy macho.  Check out this picture I cound on quickstopentertainment.com:

I mean look at that!  He’s having his picture taken with a wild and wooly bear!  Now, down-home folksy charm is all well and good in a president, but how long has it been since you’ve seen this kind of courage on a candidate!  Two thumps way up for the manliest man in the race! (Well, in all fairness, I’ve heard rumors about Hillary actually wrestling a whole pack of hyenas, but I’ve yet to find a photo online, so for now, Colbert wears the cajones in this family!)

Remember… SC voters can visit the colbert campaign site to download the pdf of the petition to get this burly hunk of man meat onto the SC primary ballot.  Get out there!

Fantastick!

I know I’ve been spending a lot of time lately gushing about other theatre going on in Greenville, and I’m okay with that.  Last night Anne and I went to see The Fantasticks at Centre Stage.  What a great show!  Great voices, energy, performances, set… the whole package!  Great fun to watch Globe associate artists Rick and Andy (you’re gonna LOVE the death scene)!  Really, it was great fun to watch them all.  You’ve got one more weekend to catch the show - it’s playing next week, Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00.  So go!  You know you want to!

Oh, and in our ongoing online love letter to Stephen Colbert… apparently he has to pay $2500 to get on the South Carolina ballot… unless he gets 3,000 registered SC voters to sign a petition to get him on the ballot.  You can find the petition here.  The website may look kinda low budget, but I navigated to it from the Comedy Central indecision blog, so it seems to be legit.  Print out one of your very own, collect signatures (remember, they have to be registered SC voters), and send it back in to the address listed on the website.  Click here to watch a clip of more coverage of the burgeoning Colbert ‘08 campaign.

To our favorite candidate

Not to undo the pledge we made yesterday… it’s we wanted to make sure to acknowledge the favorite son candidate of South Carolina.  Stephen Colbert - we endorse you some more!

And since we’ve been talking so much about Halloween, we thought we’d acknowledge you with the Stephen Colbert mask from the newsarama blog:

Howl

In addition to all of the great halloween theatre stuff going on around town….our friends in Valentine Wolfe will be playing live at R3V3RB on Oct. 27.  They are an industrial-type band with a really cool sound (and look) that is exceptionally suited to my favorite month!

And the cool thing about R3V3RB is that it is an "all ages" space. Hope to see everyone out and about this month (I’ll be out each Sunday at theatre things and after my show on the 27th!)
