Mmmmm… Briney
Well, last night was our final dress rehearsal. That’s right! We even had a couple of supportive family members watching, giving us some of those chuckles that give us hints that, oh my gosh… this play might actually be pretty funny! This weekend, as we got our costumes and our lights and sound… it started to feel like a real play. Now, last night was our first full run using all of our various food props. There are a lot of food and beverage props involved in the show. In particular, during one scene, there are a great deal of martinis on stage. Now, the exciting behind-the-scenes insight is that they are, in fact, water with olives in them. Amazing, right? Well… we make them before the show… around 6:30. And we don’t use them until Act 2… around 9:00. So the olives have a good 2 1/2 hours to soak in the water and get their olive brine good and mixed in with the water. Now… most of us don’t really drink them… just the occasional little sip here and there. No big deal. But last night I (Jen) felt compelled during one of the scenes to toss back two of them in close succession. Now, I think that’s about as drunk as I’ve ever felt without the aid of any actual alcohol. Truly an unpleasant taste sensation. But you know what? It turned out that it really helped the scene… with just that twinge of ick at the bottom of my belly. Who knew? Could I possibly be developing a new school of acting, revolving around the benefits of mild nausea onstage?
Nah.
Needless to say… do make sure to come to the show. Bring your friends, bring your enemies, bring a date, whatever. But come on down! And remember… we’ll be partying at The Northgate Soda Shop after tonight’s show! See you soon!
